Intro
This is a quick look at 735 voicing for 7th Chords, building on the previous post.
What is Voicing
As we know a chord is a collection of specific notes within a scale. Voicing refers to ‘modifications’ made to the notes in a chord in an attempt to make it sound more unique.
Some of these modifications can include:
- The order of the notes
- Doubling of notes
- Omission of notes
- Octave position of notes
For example consider the C Major triad we’ve looked at previously CEG, if we wanted to alter the voicing we could move the root down into a lower octave and play it with the left hand (Spacing), we could then double up the root note playing it with each hand simulataneously
735 Voicing
735 voicing can be applied to 7th Chords (Major or minor) to introduce some variety and consists of the following modifications:
- Bring the root note down to the bass, playing it with the left hand
- Move the 7th in front of the 3rd and 5th
